Major Labels, Sanneh distills a career’s worth of knowledge about music and musicians into a brilliant and omnivorous reckoning with popular music–as an art form (actually, a bunch of art forms), as a cultural and economic force, and as a tool that we use to build our identities. Kelefa Sanneh, one of the essential voices of our time on music and culture, has made a deep study of how popular music unites and divides us, charting the way genres become communities. \”One of the best books of its kind in decades.\”

![]() ![]() Originally thinking that we would do a take off of Adam and Eve, Crumb became so fascinated by the Bible’s language, “a text so great and so strange that it lends itself readily to graphic depictions,” that he decided instead to do a literal interpretation using the text word for word in a version primarily assembled from the translations of Robert Alter and the King James bible. Crumb, the legendary illustrator, reveals here the story of Genesis in a profoundly honest and deeply moving way. Thanks to both Anne Rice and her wonderful assistant Becket for making this interview a very enjoyable, stress-free experience.įor me, this was a remarkable opportunity, since in many humble respects, I am just a passionate book blogger, who has been mainly writing rather in-depth posts about Anne Rice’s books for nearly four years and counting. On this first order of business, yesterday I had the wonderful, very much unforgettable opportunity to interview Anne Rice (and, I do not need to elaborate on her writing credentials you know who she is). The second half of the book explores the archaeology and history of the disease. The third chapter then discusses how leprosy is diagnosed and treated today, comparing it with the methods most commonly used before the advent of modern medicine. While the initial chapter discusses the two bacteria that cause leprosy, how the disease is transmitted, and theories on how it has spread across the globe, Chapter 2 outlines how the individual is both physically and mentally affected by leprosy, delving into the details of the many different symptoms that can occur. The first part of the book outlines the biology of the disease. Roberts seeks to rectify this by correcting many of the myths that continue to be propagated around this disease, one that, despite its notoriety, still remains poorly understood by the general populace. ![]() ![]() It is a thorough compendium of knowledge on not only the history and (bio)archaeology of leprosy, but also its epidemiology and evolution.Īt its heart, it puts the people who have been affected by this horrendous disease throughout history, aware that they have too often been relegated not only to the fringes of the societies in which they lived (and continue to live), but also to the fringes of our collective history. Harry McGlade can be even goofier in short stories than he is in the books. She can even be delegated to sidekick role, letting someone else take center stage. But she can also star in nail-biting thrillers without any element of mystery. Jack can function as a traditional sleuth, solving crimes like Sherlock Holmes or Miss Marple. I use shorts to take my characters in places they wouldn't normally go in the novels.
